Fit for Disney

It's been a few years since I've traveled to Disney (Disney World in particular) but this July I will be visiting Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure Parks for the first time while I am attending a conference in Anaheim.

I have been a little lax in my exercise routine over the past little while (OK, I admit I haven't been exercising all that much) and as such, I have put on a bit of weight.  Ultimately I would like to lose about 20-25 pounds before I leave for Anaheim, however, I have a problem with food.

Over the past few months I have been trying to follow the Keto diet, but unfortunately, my love for carbs is something I am finding very hard to give up.  I love my bread, pasta and rice just too much.

The other day I got on the scale and was shocked that I gained almost 10 pounds since I jumped on the Keto bandwagon in December 2017.  I admit I haven't followed the Keto diet as closely as I should have (yes those darn carbs get me every time) but I realized that if I am going to be able to walk around the parks in the heat easily in July, I needed to buckle down and lose those pounds.

It was about 4 years ago that I tried a couple products from a company called Le-vel on the recommendation of a friend - the Thrive Women's Lifestyle Capsule and the Thrive Premium Lifestyle DFT (derma fusion technology).  At the time I was a caretaker for my aging mother and under a ton of stress, so sadly didn't stick with the program beyond a few weeks.

Fast forward to this month and my panic to lose some weight before heading off on vacation, so I decided to give the products another go.

Seeing that had been a while since I last placed an order, a little research showed that there was a new and improved version of the Thrive Lifestyle DFT - the Lifestyle DFT DUO. According to the Le-vel website, the new DFT DUO "is the next generation of derma fusion technology offering a dual-action left/right adhesive application resulting in a larger fusion footprint that provides a balanced release of ingredients.  The new DFT DUO's purpose is to support lipid metabolism, providing all day weight management and appetite support".  Plus it looked like it had added ingredients from the original Lifestyle DFT.

I figured I had nothing to lose (other than a few $$) so I placed an order on May 5th.  My package arrived today (May 9th) - WOW quick shipping!!

So ... tomorrow is the start of my new weight loss journey ... wish me luck - and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

Comment below with what programs and/or supplements you have used to try and lose weight.  I'd be interested to hear what other options are out there.

First Impression - Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA Kits

As an only child, I've always been curious about my genetic genealogy and ethnicity, especially on my mother's side of the family.  I am very lucky as my father had meticulously researched the genealogy for his side of the family (before the internet no less) and because of his efforts, I can trace our roots back to Alsace, Germany. Unfortunately family on my mother's side never really discussed their ethnicity or genealogy and I just assumed that they were either Ukrainian or Romanian.  Sadly there are no longer any living relatives on my mother's side that I can ask, so I decided to do the next best thing and do one of those fancy DNA tests they advertise.  But which one? As with any industry that has become popular, especially quickly, there are the front runner companies you always hear about - Ancestry, 23andMe and another I recently came across MyHeritage. Pricewise, MyHeritage is the cheapest at $99, Ancestry is next at $129 and then 23andMe at $249 (prices q...

A Further Update on Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA Kits

I posted an update on my Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA kits on May 28th, however, feel I need to post another update as an issue has come up with the MyHeritage kit. My test was sent back to MyHeritage on May 8th, and since I had not heard from them that they received my test, I sent a message to MyHeritage on May 23rd to get an update as to the status of my test.  This was the test that was sent from Canada to Texas so it should have been received within a week (give or take a day) - the test sent from Canada to Ireland arrived within a week. Sadly I never received any reply, however, noticed when I logged into the MyHeritage website on May 26th, my test had been marked as received on May 25th.  I found this very interesting. Fast forward to a few days ago to when I received an email from Paypal indicating that a refund had been completed by MyHeritage on June 5th.  What the heck??? Sure enough, I logged into the MyHeritage website and all signs of my DNA test ...
