Beauty Tool Review - Quo Make-Up Blending Sponge

The hot pink egg shaped Beauty Blender needs no introduction - I'm sure by now everyone has either heard of the Beauty Blender or tried it.  Problem is that this make-up blending sponge is pricey at $26 CDN.

Since the introduction of the Beauty Blender, there have been a slew of knock-offs/dupes that promise the same results for a fraction of the cost.  I have been using a Beauty Blender for a few years now and decided it was time to try some of the others.

As I live in Canada, there aren't a lot of dupes to choose from unless you order online, so first decided to try the Quo make-up blending sponge from Shopper's Drug Mart which was readily available where I live.  At $6, this sponge is much cheaper than the Beauty Blender.

The Quo sponge is about the same size as the original Beauty Blender.

Texture is similar, however, the Quo sponge is firmer and the base is slightly flatter wth the tip being slightly fatter.

Upon using the new Quo sponge, I found it does apply your foundation well, however it didn't bounce as well on the skin as the original Beauty Blender.  Being more dense, the Quo also didn't seem to absorb as much foundation as the Beauty Blender.

Sadly, after using the Quo sponge for less than 2 weeks, it began to tear and fall apart.  I am in no way hard on my sponges and have even used a Beauty Blender for over 6 months before having to replace it.

Would I recommend the Quo make-up blending sponge?  Sadly no.  While it performs well, it does tear easily and would need to be replaced every few weeks, making the original Beauty Blender a better deal.

My rating:   2 out of 5

First Impression - Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA Kits

As an only child, I've always been curious about my genetic genealogy and ethnicity, especially on my mother's side of the family.  I am very lucky as my father had meticulously researched the genealogy for his side of the family (before the internet no less) and because of his efforts, I can trace our roots back to Alsace, Germany. Unfortunately family on my mother's side never really discussed their ethnicity or genealogy and I just assumed that they were either Ukrainian or Romanian.  Sadly there are no longer any living relatives on my mother's side that I can ask, so I decided to do the next best thing and do one of those fancy DNA tests they advertise.  But which one? As with any industry that has become popular, especially quickly, there are the front runner companies you always hear about - Ancestry, 23andMe and another I recently came across MyHeritage. Pricewise, MyHeritage is the cheapest at $99, Ancestry is next at $129 and then 23andMe at $249 (prices q

A Further Update on Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA Kits

I posted an update on my Ancestry DNA vs MyHeritage DNA kits on May 28th, however, feel I need to post another update as an issue has come up with the MyHeritage kit. My test was sent back to MyHeritage on May 8th, and since I had not heard from them that they received my test, I sent a message to MyHeritage on May 23rd to get an update as to the status of my test.  This was the test that was sent from Canada to Texas so it should have been received within a week (give or take a day) - the test sent from Canada to Ireland arrived within a week. Sadly I never received any reply, however, noticed when I logged into the MyHeritage website on May 26th, my test had been marked as received on May 25th.  I found this very interesting. Fast forward to a few days ago to when I received an email from Paypal indicating that a refund had been completed by MyHeritage on June 5th.  What the heck??? Sure enough, I logged into the MyHeritage website and all signs of my DNA test were gone. I w
